Hey, there! My name is Michael.
So Where Have I Been? I recently graduated from Baruch College in 2015 with a B.A. in Corporate Communication. I've interned for organizations such as Midwood Development Corporation, NYC Parks, and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President as part of my personal goal to make a difference in the crazy community that is New York City.
However, despite all of my experience in one particular field, I've always had a growing interest in the rapidly changing world of digital media. Thus, I'm currently a part of CO*OP, where I'm learning digital marketing practices and surrounding myself with individuals that share the same passion.
And Where Am I Going? Here's my plan. I want to use what I've learned at CO*OP to become a part of a innovative digital ad agency, so that I can learn from the best, grow within that company and eventually be able to apply this to my own future endeavors. While I grow, I'd love to be able to teach and inspire others who also seek to join the world of digital marketing as a way of going back to my personal goal of giving back to the community.
- I can work effectively within a team, promoting communication and efficiency.
- I can take leadership and make decisions under time and resource constraints.
- I can teach myself new skills necessary and complimentary to any role I take on.
1 Learning Target
I can definitely improve on my organization and time management skills.
2 Companies I really admire and Why
I admire YouTube because it is amazing means for people to share creative video content without major network interference. It also has a really close-knit collaborative community, where people are constantly sharing ideas for creative and innovative content.
Facebook has allowed people around the world to connect and communicate on a scale that would never have been possible years ago. Old friends and families are able to reconnect and meeting people become a little bit easier. I also really admire Mark Zuckerberg's dedication to what he can do to benefit the world.
Let me tell you about ...
...my social media campaign to "do something good".
In my last semester at Baruch, I took a Group Communication course where we were given a group project to "do something good" as a team.
We wanted to encourage (or should I say dare) people to do something kind, funny, or something that will make people smile. So we all decided to create an Instagram-based social media campaign called "The I Dare Challenge" with the hashtag "#idarechallenge". The concept was for everyone to do something good, document it, use our hashtag, post it, and dare someone else to do the same.
The only problem was that.....and it was due next week. Seeing the urgency of our situation, I reluctantly decided to take the lead on this project. I created the Instagram page, developed a group schedule for next couple days, made sure that everyone within the group is always talking, completing their delegated tasks, and understanding that we're going to nail this project.
In the end, after a series of sleepless nights and bouts of frustration, we finalized and presented our project to the class. We got a standing ovation. The professor and the class absolutely loved our project, and our campaign had reached over 150 users in one week. That's over 150 people we encouraged to do something kind, and make someone smile.
We completely passed our goal, and we got a perfect score for our project. But most importantly, we made a difference in our communities.
