Short Intro. Hi there! Welcome to my profile! My name is Aurea and I am a multi-talented, passionate, and hard-working artist with a huge interest in integrated marketing.

Where Have I Been? In December 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from The City College of New York, having majored in Advertising and Public Relations, double minoring in Theatre and Journalism. I have worked for companies and organizations like BR Public Relations, Healthy CUNY Initiative, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and more. Recently, I have also developed multiple marketing campaigns, written several published articles, and made strides in moving forward with mental health awareness throughout New York City education.

Where Am I Now? I currently am a College Access Counselor at a non-profit organization in the Bronx called Mosholu Montefiore Community Center under the College Bound Program. I assist high school students, out of school youth and adults in their college and career process and planning, coordinate college trips, and market our program to the press. I am also a Digital Marketing Apprentice at CO*OP, eager to learn more digital marketing skills and network with professionals in my field.

Where Am I Going? In the near future, I plan to land a position in an advertising company, working on either strategy, creative, or account planning and management. Ten years from now I hope to own my own artist management company for artists of all kinds, like myself, with a huge sector in Marketing.

2 Companies I really admire and Why

Besides the fact that Grey has established themselves globally, I am IN LOVE with their work culture. Everyone who works here always has a lot of positive things to say about their environment and the people they work with. It is extremely important for me to have the right culture fit if I am going to work anywhere so that I'm comfortable. I am also impressed with their clientele and only dream of landing a job with Grey, doing strategy, creative, or account planning. I want to love my job, and I want to love going to work.

Twitch is an online live streaming platform where broadcasters can release and perform their content in real-time with viewer interaction live. I first found out of Twitch several years ago when I wanted to find a hobby that doesn't involve being the viewer but a content creator. Now as a live broadcaster, I consider Twitch as my second hobby, influencing many individuals around the world with my creative content and entertainment.

I love Roc Nation because it has become exactly what I aspire to create. A music management company that has expanded into other areas of entertainment like sports, shows a large commitment, strong team playing and high levels of growth and success. I admire Jay Z because he thinks about everything from a business perspective and has come so far from where he started. One day I hope to be just as successful!

Let me tell you about ...

Setting the stage. When I was interviewing for a full-time college counselor position at my current job (MMCC College Bound), I was probed on why I didn't get a degree in Social Work or Education, having already worked there part-time for over 3.5 years.

The beginning. I felt put on the spot and knew I needed to be honest, yet convincing. Because realistically speaking, everyone with a degree under the organization had a specification in a "related" field.

The middle. I explained, with confidence, that I was a person who believed in following my passion and marketing was one of them. I also said, "I didn't feel it was necessary to get a degree in this field simply because I worked here and wanted to continue working here. I have a degree that can be utilized anywhere and I have the experience and skills necessary from my work here and throughout my time in school. I can combine that with my degree to better promote our program, making it all the more successful."

The End. The interviewer didn't expect my response, but loved my honesty and felt my answer made a lot of sense. In the long run, I began working full-time for College Bound a week right after my interview.

Reflection. I was happy that I remained true to myself and was honest about my worth to the organization. This experience has helped me take proud ownership of my work, showcase my strengths in positioning, and allowed me to bring compelling ideas to the table.
