2 Companies I really admire and Why
As the world most well known video sharing site, YouTube was one of the first ways in which people were able to create their own videos and share it with a community to enjoy. YouTube has grown so big that people can make Careers out of it by just uploading their own personal videos. Youtube has something for everyone whether it's helping you learn how to cook a recipe properly, learning a new skills, or just watching a funny video that has gone viral, YouTube caters to every type of person. The community that has been established on youtube is its greatest strength, they are the driving force that makes youtube such a great place to visit.
Reddit is the gateway to everything interesting going on online. If something has happened then reddit will have a link within seconds to the content. Reddit is like reading a newspaper that is updated in real time by it's community. Users have the power to vote on what shows up on the front page, so you're almost guaranteed to find something interesting since it was already upvoted by thousand of people before you. You can also personalize it to your particular liking because reddit also has what is also called "subreddits". Users can join these subreddits such as politics, gaming, fitness...etc and just focus on these if they choose to. Reddit remains as the front page of the internet.
Let me tell you about ...
Setting the stage. About a year ago, at the Museum of Natural History I was selected to lead and train my fellow colleagues on how to use our new system which was being upgraded from a 20 year old system.
The beginning. The challenge I was mainly facing in this role was training employees on how to use this new system. A lot of them are not very tech savvy so it was difficult for them to grasp this new more complicated system.
The middle. The best thing I did was mentoring them on a one on one basis. Before, I would have group training but this proved unsuccessful since some of them were getting left behind in the course while others were far ahead. I decided it was best to focus on them individually and give them the attention they needed so that they can rectify any mistakes they make and have a better understanding with this new system.
The End. Ultimately, everyone learned how to use this new system and they almost never have any more technical problems. This training was very successful because now those that I've trained are training new employees on how to use this new system.
Reflection. When I look back, what I take from this opportunity that I was given is learning how to approach a problem differently given the situation and learning how to adapt to it. I also learned to have patience when working with a team and try to help those who are struggling a bit more than the others.
