Short Intro. Hi! :) My name is Berenice Mosso. I'm an imaginative, determined, and hardworking individual - and team-player! - who enjoys reading, art, photography, sports and the outdoors. I also love to learn!
Where Have I Been? I am a recent college graduate with a BA in English from CUNY Brooklyn College. My volunteer and professional experiences include positions at Brooklyn Public Library, internships at Maimonides Medical Center, and roles as Teaching Assistant, along with other odd jobs.
Where Am I Now? You can currently find me working as a full-time Teaching Assistant at Bright Horizons Family Solutions, and as a part-time sales clerk at VLS Pharmacy. Although nothing to do with the digital marketing realm, these positions have increased my awareness of human psychology, consumer behavior, and interpersonal communication - all of which appear to be important elements in the field of marketing. In addition, I am participating in a program called CO•OP, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting motivated college grads to meaningful careers in digital marketing. I joined CO•OP to further develop my professional skills, but more so to belong in a community of fellow friends and colleagues with a strong desire to learn and experience something new. From CO•OP, I hope to gain a better understanding of digital marketing and to establish long-lasting connections with fellow peers.
Where Am I Going? Besides getting my foot in the digital marketing door, I hope to one day transform myself into the confident and competent young professional I have always aspired to be but never thought possible. I also want to develop stronger communication skills - in particular, my verbal communication, which has forever been in need of improvement. Lastly, I hope to gain valuable hard skills related to digital marketing, and to continue learning for both professional and personal development.
- I am highly flexible (and curious!)
- I love to organize anything and everything
- I am a decent writer
1 Learning Target
I must improve my verbal communication - preferably in a manner that allows me to express myself effectively while remaining authentic
2 Companies I really admire and Why
As a creative person myself, I truly admire the work and talent of Mr. Walt Disney. From his early cartoons to his now ever-present legacy, Walt Disney changed the American animation industry forever, while proving that - with enough courage and imagination - dreams really can come true.
What I love most about Scholastic is its mission to encourage the intellectual and personal growth of all children, and its endorsement of reading, writing, and art among the youth. I absolutely love children's literature, and find the combination of language and art in picture books to be mesmerizing!
Let me tell you about ...
Setting the stage. It was my very first semester at Brooklyn College, having transferred from a community college (BMCC), and I was already beginning to feel the rush and chaos that came with the start of the school year. I began working as an administrative assistant at the college's Office of Civic Engagement.
The beginning. As part of my job, I was to encourage students to vote under the Voter Empowerment Project, now known as the Voter Registration and Empowerment Initiative. Thus, my task was to increase the number of voter registrations among members of the campus community - which was rather challenging, considering that I was - and still am - a natural introvert that, at the time, was still trying to adjust to a new environment.
The middle. I was forced to step out of my comfort zone and approach others, all the while trying to persuade them to register to vote. I was met with, of course, a handful of refusals and just as many approvals. I also found myself lost amidst the college campus. In addition to approaching new people, I began to work with fellow student volunteers to brainstorm ideas on increasing voter registration numbers.
The End. Our efforts and ideas as a team paid off - we exceeded the number of voter registrations collected the previous year!
Reflection. In the end, I learned how to work effectively as part of a team while developing creative solutions to meet and achieve common goals, made long-lasting friendships, and felt integrated as I explored my new school.
