Short Intro. My name is Dario Orta and I’ve got a passion for Starbucks, Oreos, and Bruno Mars.

Where Have I Been? In May 2016, I graduated from City College with a B.A in Communications specializing in Advertising and Public Relations. I spent four years as a Health Plus Teen Advisory Board Member where I assisted in creating new engaging content for their monthly newsletter and teen health web content.

Where Am I Now? I have been employed at Starbucks for 3 years. It started out as just a job but developed into a passion of mine. I started off very weak but I am now the top performing barista at my store because of my dedication to perfecting my skills.

After graduation, I felt I wasn’t exactly ready for a career because I never interned. I found out about COOP through a friend who completed the program a year before. COOP is a non-profit specialized in assisting recent CUNY grads bridge the gap between graduation and starting their careers. Through COOP I have been able to develop skills in digital marketing - including SEO, Google AdWords, Google Analytics, Facebook Ads, Excel, and Paid Search.

Where Am I Going? Considering that the digital ad space is rapidly evolving I want to make sure that my knowledge keeps growing. I have no idea how the ad market may even look in one year or what new technology we can take advantage of and that is exciting. It shows that there’s always an opportunity for growth and to keep doing something different. I may start in paid search now and then move onto programmatic. It’s a competitive world and the best way to stay ahead is to constantly challenge yourself. 10 years from now I would love to mentor a small group of young professionals like myself right now. Knowledge is great to have but what's so great about it if you don't share it with those who will follow after you.

2 Companies I really admire and Why

Ever since I got hired I made it my goal to learn everything about Starbucks from how to make drinks, company standards, and their mission statement. The CEO Howard Schultz is a true entrepreneur and has built Starbucks with the community in mind. Starbucks CSR was really inspiring how they really try make a difference in the world. I knew when I got hired that Starbucks cared and would try to make an impact to their partners and communities. If I was to describe my relationship with Starbucks in one word I would say, Meraki. Meraki is defined as leaving a piece of yourself in the work you do.

Twitch is an online live streaming platform where broadcasters can release and perform their content in real-time with viewer interaction live. I first found out of Twitch several years ago when I wanted to find a hobby that doesn't involve being the viewer but a content creator. Now as a live broadcaster, I consider Twitch as my second hobby, influencing many individuals around the world with my creative content and entertainment.

Never have i felt more a part of a community as I do as a member of COOP. I was lost and unsure what was left to do after graduating or what my following goals would be. I knew I wanted to find a job but i wasn't quite prepared as i hoped i would've been. Thanks to Kalani Leifer, I feel I am better equipped with skills that make me competitive and stand out to employers. My confidence has improved and I know I'll find my way in digital marketing in no time.

Let me tell you about ...

Three months into my job at Starbucks I was wandering the area in the late afternoon on my day off. When I approached the block where my store was located I noticed that there was a line of people over a block long. As a regular closer I knew my store only had three people staffed at night. I ran down the block to my store where I discovered my supervisor had locked himself in the bathroom as to avoid the chaos and abandon my coworkers. I got permission from my supervisor to work so I immediately asked my team what they needed from me. After two hours the line had finally stopped and my team was able to finish their closing tasks on time. Running into my store and helping my team really taught me a lot about working as a team when things get tough.
