My name is Arianna Olivo and I am a freelance designer, painter and animator living in New York City.

Where Have I Been?

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the City College of New York with a major in Studio Art concentrating in Digital Design in June 2016. Previously, I graduated in June 2013 with an Associates in Digital Design from Hostos Community College. Over the summer I worked for Creative Art Works (CAW), a nonprofit that paints murals around New York City.

Where Am I Now?

I am a Digital Marketing apprentice at COOP, learning new skills including Excel, Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing and Paid Social. I joined COOP because Digital Design and Digital Marketing can come together to make something beautiful. When not focusing on Digital Marketing, I work on my art.

2 Companies I really admire and Why

What's not to like about Marvel? I've been a Marvel fan since I was young. I grew up on Spider-Man and the X-Men animated series. Marvel gives me the fuzzies and even today still appeal to my inner child. A Marvel person I really admire is Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada. He used to be the  Editor in Chief of the company, and today still does illustrations for various Marvel properties. Marvel has been around since 1939 where it used to be Timely Publications, that's 77 years!

Twitch is an online live streaming platform where broadcasters can release and perform their content in real-time with viewer interaction live. I first found out of Twitch several years ago when I wanted to find a hobby that doesn't involve being the viewer but a content creator. Now as a live broadcaster, I consider Twitch as my second hobby, influencing many individuals around the world with my creative content and entertainment.

So I also like DC comics, I can like both companies. Besides they have Batman. Batman makes this company special. All joking aside, DC Comics has managed to stay in competition with Marvel for a very long time. Their animated shows and movies are where they and Warner Bros. shine brightest. DC Comics has actually been around longer than Marvel beating them by 5 years, starting in 1934 as National Allied Publications.

Let me tell you about ...

Over the summer I worked for Creative Art Works through Summer Youth Employment. Creative Art Works, CAW, is a non-profit art organization that paints murals around New York City and I helped paint a mural at Hamilton Grange Middle School.

So I worked with a group of twenty youths, along with a teaching artist and two teaching artist assistants. We had six weeks to take down a previous CAW mural that was put up years before, but destroyed by scaffolding when the school decided to do construction and put up a new one. The mural wall was about 180 ft. long and thirty-six high.

Three weeks were spent power washing and scraping the previous mural off the wall. I researched the community, which was Hamilton Heights, and asked various questions. One interviewee ended up an integral part of the mural and it was from her that the theme came together. Once the final design was put together in Adobe Photoshop, the idea was presented to the Principals of the Schools, the CAW staff and the CEO of CAW. During the presentation I spoke about the creative process and the steps that were taken to help the team arrive at the final product of the mural.

The last three weeks were spent painting the mural and making sure everything was in order. As the work was outside, the sidewalk and the supplies had to be kept clean at all times. Most others spent time painting different parts of the wall. There was a large amount of both. Sometimes people would come up to me and say they had nothing to paint so I would have them either help me with the part I was working on or send them to a empty part of the wall that needed more attention. The mural was finished by the deadline.

Working for CAW this summer has taught me team building, public speaking, and developing a creative process. I also learned how to research, reach out to the community and manage a team.
