Hi! My name is Tannya Luna. I have the opportunity to be involved in the Digital Marketing field. I'm very intrigued at the way Social Media takes place in the life of each one of us. I'm looking forward to keep on learning about the emerging markets and how it can change the course of marketing in the near future.
I graduated from Guttman Community College with an Associates in Business Administration. Now, I'm in the last semester of pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Advertising and Marketing Communications with a focus in Graphic Design at Baruch College. My background has given me a variety of skill sets that I can rely on. I have had the opportunity to work as a team leader, player, teacher, event coordinator, social media manager, and graphic artist.
Currently, I'm working as a Communications Assistant at Guttman Community College's Communication Department. There I have the opportunity to wear different hats; as a graphic artist and social media manager. Also, I have recently joined COOP; a competitive marketing program where we develop the necessary skills in the Digital Marketing field and use them with actual clients; revamping their marketing strategies and increase their social media presence.
My goal is to attend graduate school. Also, my goal is to be in a leadership position at a Digital Marketing Company, using all the skills I have gained all these years. Essentially, I want to keep on learning more about the emerging markets.
- I can be creative.
- I can be a leader when needed.
- I can work with multiple deadlines.
1 Learning Target
I can improve my writing while becoming a better strategist.
2 Companies I really admire and Why
Disney has become my inspiration. I have seen many shows from Disney since my childhood, and I still do. Disney owns many successful companies; Disney Television, Marvel Entertainments, ESPN Inc., Lucas Film and others. Today, Disney is one of the biggest companies known worldwide. They have found the perfect equation to bring experiences and memories to consumers like me.
Since 1998, Funko has been a seller of pop culture. They are the creators of Funko Pop! Vinyl collectibles. They have given life to thousands of characters from movies, anime, TV shows, and many more. About five months ago, I became a fanatic of them. I became a collector because they brought back my favorite characters to life with such detail in their design (for example, Disney and Marvel characters). This company was about to close but CEO Brian Mariotti was able to bring it back by creating a culture with their collectible characters.
Let me tell you about ...
In 2013, the Peer Mentor Program at Guttman Community College offered me a Peer Mentor position after a rigorous interview process. I recalled my boss calling me in to tell me the good news, however the trick was that I was selected to become one of the two Studio Peer Mentors.
This class is a seminar for incoming students worth about 15% of their overall grade in City Seminar. At the beginning of my experience at Guttman, I had a negative experience during my Studio classes. It became a challenge because I was one of the people who previously wrote a petition with more than 50 student-signatures to change the Studio classes. Ironically, I was given the role to become a co-facilitator for the same class.
After having a long talk with my supervisor, I decided to take the opportunity. I received training had the privilege to work with Tellisia, a PhD student who was my facilitator partner. We got to know each other better and along with other mentors. We had the opportunity to revamp the syllabus for studio. By creating beneficial activities, we have created an impact in those students and hoped that they have learned from it as we have learned from them.
The day that I had to facilitate for the first time in forever was in front of more than 25 students. They were looking up to me and I would never forget those feelings. Years have passed and now Studio is a complex topic. However, it has improved so much compared to my first year experience. Now, students have a better understanding of how Studio forms a part of their first year experience. I have become a better leader, facilitator and student because I gained valuable experience through trial & error.
I had the opportunity to work closely with faculty and be in the same shoes of a professor. During my years of experience in this position, I have been able to acquire memories and experiences that shaped who I am. Also, I saw this as an opportunity to further on my communication skills, time management, facilitation techniques, managing people and leadership skills, which was something outside of my comfort zone.
